Warships

Ketch

A new type of ship aimed for shelling coastline fortifications and seaside settlements from sea emerged in the XVIII century. Such vessels were equipped with only two masts: mainmast with upright sails and mizenmast with fore-and-aft sails. Instead of foremast a platform with one or two powerful mortars was set. The fire of these ships could deliver substantial damage on fortification walls, they were indispensable in large-scale landing operations.
